The City of Garland has elevated one of its own to a top-tier position within the Parks & Recreation Department. D'Lee Williams, a veteran with nearly three decades of experience in the field of recreation, took on the role of Managing Director of Parks & Recreation as of December 22. Williams will now be at the helm of the city's recreational operations and its strategic initiatives, building on a career deeply rooted in community service and recreation management.
Williams' professional journey is one marked by persistence and upward mobility, having begun her career with the City of Garland and circling back multiple times each instance climbing the hierarchical ladder. Before her present promotion, Williams fulfilled the role of Recreation Director, a role in which she oversaw six recreation centers, two senior centers, aquatic programs, athletics, and a variety of programs aimed at engaging the community. According to the official announcement from the City of Garland, she also spearheaded the department's accreditation process through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies.
In her time away from Garland, Williams further honed her leadership skills with the City of Denton, where she managed sizeable budgets and introduced creative recreational programming. She boasts a master's degree in Student Services Administration and a bachelor's in Leisure Studies from the University of North Texas. Her commitment to the field of Parks & Recreation is also reflected in her active participation with the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
