In an announcement that underscores a career devoted to law enforcement and community building, retired Garland Police Lieutenant Dave Swavey will be inducted into the National Law Enforcement Officer Hall of Fame. The Garland Police Department announced that Swavey, who also managed the Garland Police Boxing Gym Program after retiring, will receive the Scherer-Remsberg Lifetime Achievement Award during a ceremony this April.

According to the Garland Police Department, Swavey began serving with the Garland Police in July 1981 and rose to lieutenant a decade later. During his 34-year tenure before his 2015 retirement, he held roles in diverse units, notably Patrol, K9, Gang Unit, and SWAT. Even after hanging up his badge, Swavey's commitment to local youths didn't wane as he continued to serve as the civilian coordinator for the boxing gym he helped establish.

Swavey has been awarded previously for his efforts. He is no stranger to accolades, such as the Homer B. Johnson Legacy Award from the Garland Sports Hall of Fame, which honors his transformative influence on local children and the community.

The community and department are invited to celebrate with Lt. Swavey as he takes his place among the esteemed ranks of those honored for their exceptional service in law enforcement. The ceremony in April marks a fitting tribute to his indelible impact, not merely on those within the reach of his programs but as a lasting inspiration to his peers and the broader tapestry of the community he has served.
