The Smithsonian National Zoo's latest furry celebrities, Bao Li and Qing Bao, were spotted having a blizzard of a good time in the season's first significant snowfall in Washington, D.C. According to NBC Washington, the giant pandas enjoyed the wintry blanket of approximately five inches of snow in their outdoor habitats yesterday, flipping and frolicking to the delight of online viewers.
The Monday snowstorm, the D.C. area's largest in years, wasn't just a playful backdrop for the pandas but a source of hassle for humans, bringing hazardous road conditions and prompting closures of all Smithsonian museums in D.C. and major school districts. However, Storm Team4 foresees an accumulation of 6 to 10 inches by Tuesday, which suggests the potential for more snow day antics from the panda pair or more traffic headaches for the city, depending on one's perspective. The weather led to a closure of the National Zoo yesterday and today, WTOP reported.
These pandas aren't just any ordinary new arrivals. They made a long journey from China, landing in their new home on October 15. Their playful snow romp was captured before they've even met the public, though that will change soon enough, as per DC News Now, they are scheduled to make their official debut on January 24.
