Governor Katie Hobbs touted her administration’s major accomplishments, including repealing Arizona’s restrictive abortion ban, closing select agricultural leases to safeguard water supplies, and eliminating $2 billion in medical debt, benefiting roughly one million Arizonans. In an interview with ABC15, Hobbs addressed family hardships intensified by inflation, emphasizing efforts such as affordable housing initiatives and mortgage assistance through the Arizona is Home program. Despite vetoing a record 216 GOP-backed bills, Hobbs maintained her administration’s focus on collaboration and advancing policies to tackle the state’s pressing challenges.
In the realm of honoring the spirit of volunteerism, the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family recognized Arizonans at the 21st Annual Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards, celebrating individuals and groups committed to service, from a young man channeling personal challenges into mentoring youth, to a beacon of guidance for minority micro-entrepreneurs, the awardees' dedication to social fibers of Arizona abound in amidst of complex political and societal times.
Among the awardees was Yusuf Rakhimi, who brought his personal experiences of financial struggle to the Swift Youth Foundation, contributing over 250 service hours, illustrating an enduring pattern of care for vulnerable children, while in another sector, Steve Engelhardt was extolled for his 150 hours aiding 60 business owners in the Training Initiative to Mentor Entrepreneurs, Lauren Delashaw also got recognition for her work in expanding a nonprofit's reach in Southern Arizona, and organizations such as LASER provided crucial disaster response services, cementing the importance of active citizens in addressing state-wide and local issues, as Hobbs "I'm grateful for their contributions to Arizona," the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family stated.
