The county's offices, including the clerk's office, have shuttered their doors, citing inclement weather, challenging road conditions, and hazardously low temperatures. Essential services, crucial for the comfort and safety of the community, remain operational. This announcement, highlighted on the county's official website, notes today’s operational changes.
The justice system in the county has hit pause, with the closure of the Gwinnett County Courthouse. As a result of the severe weather spell, trials and hearings are canceled. However, the Clerk of Court’s office assures that electronic filing is still accessible "24/7 through eFile GA." Ride Gwinnett suspends local, commuter, microtransit, or paratransit service due to weather conditions.
Those braving the weather will not have to navigate the familiar stop-and-go at the Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner’s Offices—they're closed too. As per the county's press release, household routines are also experiencing a shift; solid waste collection may be delayed. The county asks its residents, to place their trash and recycle out as per their regular schedule, standing steadfast in the promise that all services are expected to catch up by Saturday, Jan. 25.
Gwinnett County has opened warming stations, operating from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. "If someone you know needs a place to rest and eat a meal, please find a station near you," the county urges, directing those interested to their website or to reach out by phone at 770-822-8850 for details on locations.
