The spirit of community was palpable at the recent city council meeting where Helping One Guy (H.O.G.) Ministry took a step toward inclusivity and support for those with disabilities. On January 16, Chairwoman Shannon Sikorski welcomed the H.O.G. Ministry members as they presented a generous donation to the Horizon League, a gesture stemming from their December holiday breakfast's proceeds. The Horizon League has long been a beacon for children and young adults with developmental and physical conditions, offering them a platform for athletics and camaraderie.
According to the City of Acworth official website, the Horizon League champions "the opportunity to participate in athletic events, develop lasting relationships among their peers, coaches, and parents," which is vital for their integration into the fabric of community life. The league not only fosters an environment of inclusion, but firmly establishes an understanding, that each participant, their families included, are a vital part of their community. This emphasis on inclusivity serves as the cornerstone for H.O.G.'s contribution.
Demonstrating a commitment to the well-being of all community members, H.O.G. Ministry's recent financial boost to the Horizon League underscores the importance of supporting programs dedicated to special needs. Funds from the holiday breakfast were raised specifically to aid such initiatives, ensuring that the league continues to provide these indispensable services to those who benefit from them most.
The Horizon League provides "an environment of inclusion for both the participants and their families," notes the City of Acworth website. Through athletic events, the league’s participants not only engage in physical activity but also forge vital social connections, thus, nurturing life skills through recreational play.
