Hillsborough County officials are adjusting the operating hours of their storm debris collection sites as the cleanup efforts following Hurricane Milton wind down. Starting tomorrow, the collection sites, which were previously open 24 hours a day, will now operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.
According to the Hillsborough County release, the county has made significant progress in its debris collection efforts, having collected over 4.3 million cubic yards of waste—equivalent to filling Raymond James Stadium ten times.
The storm debris collection sites will continue to accept a range of materials, including yard waste, furniture, construction debris, and non-hazardous waste such as tires, electronics, and paint. The sites have specific guidelines for what can be dropped off. For example, Hillsborough Heights and other main facilities accept bulky furniture and appliances, while Alderman's Ford and Wimauma Solid Waste sites do not accept yard waste.
In addition to the adjusted hours, Alderman's Ford and Wimauma Solid Waste sites will now be open Monday through Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., to help residents discard construction and other types of debris.
Curbside debris collection is also nearing completion, with over 90% of the routes already finished. The Hillsborough County continues to encourage residents to play an active role in the cleanup process by following the new collection guidelines. To help residents track the progress of debris removal in their neighborhoods, Hillsborough County offers the online Storm Debris Collection Lookup Tool.
For those seeking updates, the county provides notifications through HCFL Alert, their public notification system. In case of limited internet access, residents can contact the Customer Service Center at (813) 272-5900 for further information.
