Houston residents should prepare for a weather shift this weekend, with mild conditions giving way to potential severe weather on Sunday. The National Weather Service forecasts patchy fog today, followed by partly sunny skies with highs around 68 degrees. Evening fog is expected after 3 a.m., with mostly cloudy skies and lows around 58 degrees.
However, Sunday may bring disruptions, especially for outdoor plans. A Weather Impact Alert from KHOU 11 warns of strong storms, with gusty winds as the primary concern. "The potential for severe weather is back in the forecast and that’s why the KHOU 11 Weather Team is calling for a Weather Impact Alert on Sunday," the alert stated. The main storm window is from early morning until 6 p.m.
Saturday will be mostly cloudy, with highs around 72 degrees and lighter southeast winds. However, Sunday will bring a significant change, with showers, possible thunderstorms, and stronger winds. South winds will shift to northwesterly in the afternoon, with gusts up to 25 mph. There’s an 80 percent chance of rain, with the storm system expected to move offshore by evening.
After Sunday’s storms, a cold front will cause a sharp temperature drop. Monday’s high is expected to reach 46 degrees, with a low around 31 degrees.
The colder weather will continue into the work week, with Tuesday’s highs just below 50 degrees and nighttime temperatures near freezing. Showers are possible on Wednesday and Thursday.
