A grizzly discovery was made at Keller Beach in Point Richmond on Tuesday evening as a visitor stumbled upon human remains while exploring the East Bay Regional Park. According to Mercury News, the remains were discovered around 8:40 p.m. They were in an advanced state of decomposition, making it difficult for authorities to determine the gender of the deceased immediately.
The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office has since taken control of the remains to work adequately and to identify the person and cause of death. Regional parks spokesperson Dave Mason confirmed that there is "no threat to public safety" as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, SFGATE reports that parts of the beach were sealed off with caution tape following the discovery.
Officials have released few details at this point. Mason, who spoke to SFGATE, mentioned that the beach is open to the public daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
