Injured Fisherman Airlifted to Safety After Eyeball Mishap 40 Miles Off Oahu CoastSource: U.S. Coast Guard Hawaii

An injured fisherman was hoisted from his vessel and flown to safety earlier this week, following an incident that left him in need of medical attention some 40 miles off the coast of Oahu. According to KITV, the Coast Guard received initial notification of the 34-year-old crew member's eye injury from fellow crew aboard the fishing vessel Captain Davis at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

After conducting consultations with a flight surgeon, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu decided a medevac was necessary. The Coast Guard dispatched an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point early Monday morning to intercept the injured fisherman, as reported by KITV.

Once on location, the Dolphin helicopter hoisted the man from the Captain Davis, which had been situated approximately 350 miles southwest of Oahu when the injury occurred. The victim was then transported to the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. As per the latest reports from Hawaii News Now, the fisherman was last listed in stable condition following his medevac.
