After an exhaustive four-year international manhunt, Baldomero Hernandez-Jimenez has been arrested in Mexico for serious sexual offenses he was initially charged with in 2020. Hernandez-Jimenez was charged with numerous counts of statutory rape, statutory sexual offense, and indecent liberties with a child before he managed to post a $500,000 bond and subsequently evade his court appearance, as QC News reported.

An interagency effort featuring the Union County Sheriff's Office, the Union County District Attorney's Office, the U.S. Marshals, and the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force worked doggedly to eventually locate Hernandez-Jimenez. The collaboration culminated in his capture by a U.S. Marshals task force, who were successful in their international endeavor to find and to arrest the suspect.

Hernandez-Jimenez now awaits legal proceedings after being extradited back to the United States. He's currently being held at the Union County Detention Center, where a new $300,000 bond has been set, according to WCNC. In addition, an ICE hold has been placed against him to prevent any possible release.

Union County Sheriff Eddie Cathey emphasized the importance of perseverance in the face of such an extensive search. "This case underscores our steadfast commitment to justice and accountability," Sheriff Cathey told WSOCTV. "No matter how far an offender runs or how long it takes, we will pursue them relentlessly to ensure they are held accountable for their crimes."
