The National Weather Service in Jacksonville, FL advises locals to brace for a frosty night. According to their latest update, a Frost Advisory remains in effect from 11 PM this evening to 9 AM EST Sunday. "Temperatures as low as 34 will result in frost formation," warns the NWS, pinpointing northeast and northern sections of Florida as areas particularly expected to see these chilling temperatures.
Residents of cities including Jacksonville, Palm Coast, and Saint Augustine should take action to safeguard their tender vegetation. The NWS urges to "take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold." With the frost potentially posing a threat to sensitive outdoor plants, which may be killed if left uncovered, it is crucial to prepare to immediately act to mitigate potential damage from this weather event.
Following the frosty conditions, the weather is forecast to turn sunny with a high near 65 degrees today. The clarity of the sky may provide temporary respite, as the NWS anticipates a shaky transition into the new week. Partly cloudy skies will hover tonight, with the temperature expected to dip to around 54 degrees. This tranquility will be punctuated by showers, with a 70 percent chance of precipitation, as a thunderstorm is possible before the afternoon tomorrow.
Looking ahead, residents should also brace for gusty conditions post-storm. While rainfall may be less than a tenth of an inch, thunderstorms could bring higher amounts. The NWS anticipates a windy tomorrow night, with mostly clear skies and a low reaching around 35 degrees. This might suddenly quickly change as gusts as high as 23 mph are expected to ruffle the serene night. "Windy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph," reported the NWS, suggesting that some may need to secure outdoor objects that could become airborne in such breezy conditions.
As Jacksonville residents peer into the rest of the week, the forecast promises sunshine with highs gradually raising from the low fifties on Tuesday to near 58 degrees by Friday. Nights will particularly see temperatures dropping low enough to cause patchy frost, notably before Wednesday's dawn. Although climatic challenges lay ahead, Floridians are no strangers to weathering shifting skies.
