The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has announced the arrest of 43-year-old Melissa Rae Harper in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son. Harper has been charged with aggravated manslaughter.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Facebook page, in March last year, the boy was pronounced dead shortly after Harper brought him to an emergency room, claiming she found him unresponsive.

The cause of death was determined to be Combined Drug Intoxication, with fentanyl and xylazine found in the toddler’s system. Following an autopsy by the Medical Examiner, Harper was questioned by detectives and was arrested and placed in Duval County jail.
