The Johnson City Fire Department is stepping up its community engagement with a new hands-on CPR training course aimed at teaching vital life-saving techniques; this decision came as a direct consequence of a community survey highlighting a demand for more educational programs, especially in CPR. "The program will initially be offered internally to Johnson City employees. Once we fine-tune the training, the JCFD will begin fulfilling community requests for the courses," JCFD Chief David Bell said, as stated by Johnson City.

On the debut day of the training, approximately 70 employees of the Johnson City Water and Sewer Services Department took part in the hands-on session which employed two cutting-edge Brayden CPR manikins, featuring animated LED lights that demonstrate blood flow to the brain during proper chest compressions and the training, designed to give instant visual feedback, aims to make each participant adept at performing efficient CPR. According to the department's announcement, "This program aligns perfectly with our mission to enhance public safety and build a more resilient community," with Chief Bell noting, "immediate CPR can double or even triple the chance of survival."

The focus of the JCFD training is on hands-only CPR, which is a simplified technique involving no mouth-to-mouth resuscitation but instead stresses on the importance of quick action, calling 911 and providing chest compressions till emergency responders arrive which is crucial for increasing the odds of survival in case of cardiac arrest.
