
On Tuesday, Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel quickly acted to safely put out a structure fire in Līhu‘e. According to a report by the County of Kaua'i website, the incident, which resulted in no injuries, saw firefighters dispatched to Umi Street shortly before 1 p.m., where they encountered a business building emitting smoke from its rooftop vent.
With the collective response from the Kapa‘a, Kalāheo, and Līhu‘e stations—alongside the Fire Prevention Bureau, Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, and the Kaua‘i Police Department—the teams were able quickly to assess the situation. The fire, which started within the one-story building, led to first responders facing heavy smoke before they located and fully extinguished the fire's origin.
As the KFD Fire Prevention Bureau took over for investigation, damages were estimated to be around $90,000, with the fire's cause still under review. "Crews made their way in and encountered heavy smoke. First responders found the origin of the fire and fully extinguished it," the County of Kaua'i's announcement detailed. It is a clear testament to the procedural effectiveness and readiness of the island's emergency services.
