Garbage accumulation is increasingly challenging, and the King County Solid Waste Division is working diligently to address the situation. In response to a backlog at the county’s transfer stations, the division has implemented a pilot project to overhaul its hours of operation to improve efficiency. Notably, Seattle and Milton will not be impacted by these changes.

This temporary disruption has prompted commercial haulers to devise alternative plans. The county has provided two options: utilizing their facilities or transporting waste to the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill in Maple Valley. Although the latter may involve some additional distance, it is necessary in light of the overwhelming refusal to be processed. The Solid Waste Division emphasizes that it is not simply shifting the burden but actively collaborating with neighboring jurisdictions to increase capacity.

Residents within the affected service areas are encouraged to contact their waste collection providers, such as Waste Management, Recology, Waste Connections, or Republic Services, to ascertain any potential disruptions before addressing concerns about their waste collection.

The King County Solid Waste Division, which operates under the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, is not handling this issue in isolation. They are working closely with commercial haulers to determine the most effective solutions. According to King County's press release, the division is "continuing to coordinate with haulers," expecting these efforts to alleviate the current garbage backlog soon.
