The City of Knoxville is set to hold a public meeting on January 28, allowing locals to have their say on the future of housing and neighborhood development. The meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. at the City’s Public Works Service Center on Morris Avenue, aims to share insights on the 2025-2029 Consolidated Plan draft, a blueprint for Knoxville's investment in affordable housing, homelessness, and economic initiatives for the next five years.
Involving the community is a cornerstone of the planning process, as evidenced by the previous consultations and public discussions throughout 2024. According to the City of Knoxville, over 600 residents have participated thus far. Housing and Neighborhood Development Director Kevin DuBose stated, "We’ve been listening to the community about housing and other community needs for a long time, and I’m eager to continue this conversation through the next public meetings and input opportunities."
The upcoming meeting is just one part of an ongoing engagement strategy to ensure that the Consolidated Plan reflects the priorities of Knoxville’s people. Interested parties can review the draft plan in April and submit their suggestions before the finalized document is sent to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development by May 15. Those unable to attend in person can still make their voices heard by sending feedback via email to [email protected] or by post to the address provided.
