The City of Lakewood is harnessing the power of local communities with its Neighborhood Connections program, aimed at increasing civic engagement and informing residents about city operations. In Lakewood, six neighborhood associations provide residents a space to discuss local issues and foster community relationships.
Five of these associations are set to convene in a series of meetings throughout January, with the Lake City Neighborhood Association kicking off the sequence on Thursday. According to the city's official website, these gatherings are open invitations to any residents who wish to participate in shaping the social and physical landscape of their neighborhood. The Tillicum/Woodbrook Neighborhood Association will host a meeting on January 14, followed closely by Springbrook Community Meetings on January 16.
For those residing in the Fort Steilacoom vicinity, their neighborhood association has a meeting slated for January 21, offering an opportunity for locals to engage in dialogue concerning their immediate environment. The Downtown Neighborhood Association won’t convene until February 12, giving downtown dwellers plenty of time to prepare for significant discourse on communal matters at the Interim Lakewood Library.
One association, the North Lakewood Neighborhood Association, has yet to schedule a meeting, leaving a gap in the fabric of their neighborhood's communal engagements. Each meeting represents a chance for residents to actively participate in discussions and decisions that affect their everyday life.
