Las Cruces is issuing a call for artists to bring life to its sidewalks with the "Chalk Walk," an outdoor art exhibition set to splash color across the museum courtyard on March 8. The city's Quality of Life Department, alongside Las Cruces Museums and the City Art Board, invites creatives from all walks to participate in this vibrant event, where art will bloom from the concrete from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to the City of Las Cruces.
Each artist lucky enough to leave their mark on this ephemeral canvas will be awarded an honorarium, and the stakes are high with a community choice competition dangling the lure of a cash prize, courtesy of the Foundation for Las Cruces Museums. Hopeful participants must submit, an application form accompanied by a concept sketch before the February 21 deadline, and await the selection committee's decision.
Aspiring chalk artists can scour the City’s Public Art website for the information they need to throw their hat into the ring. This event is not just a competition but an invitation for local talents to showcase their skills and engage with the community in a visually interactive way.
For further details, or to address any queries, reach out to Ceci Vasconcellos, the city's Public Art Coordinator. Vasconcellos is available at (575) 541-2780/TTY 711, or interested parties can contact her directly via email at [email protected]. The Chalk Walk is more than an art display, it's a celebration of public art's ability to enliven spaces and bring communities together.
