The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado has announced significant changes in its leadership with both U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Kirsch and Deputy U.S. Attorney Andrea Wang set to resign by January 25. Kirsch, after more than two decades with the Department of Justice, expressed his deep appreciation for working with his colleagues and leading the office, "I’ve been incredibly honored to serve the United States and the people of Colorado through over twenty-five years of work at the Department of Justice. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to work with my colleagues here and to lead this office," according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Kirsch is moving on to become the First Assistant District Attorney with the Denver District Attorney’s Office. Meanwhile, First Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Bishop Grewell is set to step in as Acting United States Attorney once Kirsch's resignation takes effect. Bringing years of experience to the table, Grewell's tenure at the Department of Justice, which began in 2010 has included a focus on appellate work since joining the District of Colorado's team in 2013.
With these departures, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is entering a phase of transition. The next permanent U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado will ultimately be decided by President-Elect Donald Trump, who is expected to announce his nomination in the coming months.
