Yesterday, an East Tennessee highway became the site of an unusual spill when a tanker transporting liquid chocolate overturned, prompting an emergency response and a significant traffic reroute. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the incident occurred on Highway 340 at the Greene/Cocke County line just after 2 p.m. The driver of the tanker, carrying several thousand gallons of confectionery cargo, sustained injuries in the crash, leading to airlift to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, as reported by WSMV.
The THP and Greene County first responders were dispatched to the scene, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation is currently managing a detour for the affected traffic. Details regarding the condition of the driver or the extent of the chocolate spill have yet to be released. The road remained closed to traffic as of the latest updates, and THP has not confirmed, whether any of the liquid chocolate leaked out onto the highway, as per ABCNews 4.
Air and ground crews worked in tandem to address the immediate hazards and begin the recovery and cleanup process. Lifestar was dispatched to provide rapid transportation for the injured driver to medical care, as reported by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
