Motorists in Livonia should expect major detours as Michigan Department of Transportation begins a $21.5 million bridge reconstruction project. The work will replace two bridges: one on Ann Arbor Road over the Middle Rouge River (built in 1925) and another on Edward Hines Drive over Ann Arbor Road (built in 1948), according to The Detroit News.

Ann Arbor Road (Old M-14) will close at 6 a.m. on January 6, to quickly commence bridge demolition and intersection work. Eastbound traffic will be detoured via Newburgh Road north to Plymouth Road east. Westbound traffic will be detoured via Plymouth Road west to Newburgh Road south, as confirmed by ClickonDetroit.

Edward Hines Drive will close later this spring between Newburgh and Wayne Roads for major reconstruction, including the bridge over Ann Arbor Road and nearby paths. A temporary bridge will maintain pedestrian access. Michigan Department of Transportation has striven to carefully plan detours for eastbound traffic, which will follow Newburgh, Ann Arbor/Plymouth, Farmington, and Joy Roads. Westbound traffic will follow the reverse route. The project, expected to finish by late 2025, also includes upgrades to traffic signals and intersections. Travelers should allow extra time and stay informed, as reported by MetroDetroitToday.
