The City of Long Beach is taking significant strides towards enhancing its cultural and entertainment landscape with the development of the Long Beach Bowl, set to be the city’s premiere outdoor amphitheater. According to a press release from the City of Long Beach, they have tentatively selected ASM Global/Legends, a titan in venue management, to run the forthcoming facility located on the downtown waterfront adjacent to the Queen Mary.
Long Beach's Mayor, Rex Richardson, expressed excitement about the project, saying, "This is a transformative time for Long Beach as we continue raising our position as a leading destination for the arts, entertainment and tourism in Southern California." He sees this partnership with ASM Global/Legends as an opportunity to "showcase Long Beach to the world." The anticipation builds as the City Council is set to give formal recommendation and approval on the tentative selection by March 11, as detailed by the City of Long Beach.
With notable emphasis on the potential economic and communal benefits, First District Councilwoman Mary Zendejas spoke to the value of the amphitheater: "The Long Beach Bowl will serve as an iconic destination along the Downtown waterfront, bringing together locals and tourists to foster connection, creativity and entertainment for all," as stated by the City of Long Beach. This sentiment is echoed by Bo Martinez, Economic Development Department Director, who highlighted ASM Global/Legends' vast experience in managing similar venues, and their prospective contribution to attracting globally renowned talent and audiences to Long Beach.
This venture is only a part of a broader vision, as the temporary amphitheater will operate on a five-year term, serving as a precursor to a possible permanent structure. Construction is set to initiate this winter, paving the way for a series of events to captivate both residents and visitors that the city ambitiously aims to host by the year’s end.
