On #NationalTechnologyDay, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) shared a recent example where technology played a key role in a successful outcome during a field operation.
The LVMPD's social media post outlined a mountain rescue operation that took place last Saturday, involving their Drones as a First Responder (DFR) Unit. At approximately 5 p.m., a 17-year-old hiker became stranded on a ledge on the eastern side of Lone Mountain. The DFR unit quickly located the individual and provided critical location details to the ground teams.
In a video posted by the LVMPD, the department revealed that the drone's powerful spotlight was instrumental, offering continuous illumination for the rescue teams and, the hiker throughout the four-hour operation. This ensured everyone's safety and contributed to the operation's efficiency.
The operation involved close coordination, with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue utilizing multiple methods to reach the hiker. He was eventually brought to safety and reunited with his family. The drone operators were acknowledged by the rescue team for the drone’s role in the success of the operation.
