A tragedy struck on New Year's Eve in Lynnwood where a 14-year-old boy was tragically killed and another teen was injured in a shooting incident. Officials reported that the violence erupted at an apartment complex near 196th Street Southwest and 68th Avenue West around 8:15 p.m. The local police department is actively pursuing the suspect or suspects responsible for this incident. The investigation continues as authorities piece together the events of the fatal evening, as KING 5 News reported.
Details surrounding the shooting remain scarce, but a friend of the deceased, who has chosen to remain unnamed, recounted the chilling moment when they heard up to eight shots fired shortly after the victim left a friend’s apartment in the complex. Residents of the YWCA-associated complex were taken aback, noting to FOX 13 Seattle that there were no indicators of an altercation prior to the gunfire.
The Lynnwood Police Department has since called the event “an isolated incident with no active threat to the public.” In efforts to understand the chain of events leading to this senseless act, YWCA officials shared with KOMO News that security camera footage revealed one of the shot victims collapsing in their parking lot after initially being shot across the street from the Somerset Apartments.
“A young boy told us off camera that the teen had gone to visit a friend at the apartment complex to say ‘hi’ on New Year's Eve night. When he left that friend's apartment, he heard up to eight shots ringing out minutes later,” according to an interview given to FOX 13 Seattle.
