
A Long Beach neighborhood was disrupted by the sound of gunshots on New Year's Eve, leading to a tense scene on East Plymouth Street. According to the Long Beach Police Department, on Wednesday, at around 8:10 p.m., a man was injured following a verbal altercation that escalated dramatically.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body, fortunately not life-threatening, and was transported to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel.
The confrontation between the assailant and the victim had seemingly peaked in a verbal dispute before descending into a violent encounter. Officers arriving on the scene found the shooter still present and immediately took him into custody, as per the LBPD.
The suspect, identified as 67-year-old Charles Heard of Long Beach, now faces serious charges, including one count of attempted murder and one count of being a prohibited possessor of a firearm, as detailed by the LBPD. His bail was set at the steep sum of $1,000,000.
