Mecklenburg County is calling on its residents to voice their opinions on the local deployment of the Community Development Block Grant Program’s upcoming plans. According to an announcement on Mecklenburg County's official news site, there’s a little over $1 million up for grabs for housing, economic development, and community development issues for the Fiscal Year 2025, beginning on July 1, 2025.

To ensure the funds are used effectively, the County is hosting a public hearing for the 2025-2029 Consolidated Plan and the 2025-2026 Annual Action Plan. Constructive feedback from local individuals is crucial as it provides insight into the community’s needs and priorities. This collaborative effort aims to identify gaps and opportunities within the current system and refine the allocation of resources to better serve the community. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, from 5 to 6 p.m., at the Belle Johnston Community Center.

For those interested in attending the event in Pineville, NC, coordinators encourage reaching out to Zsuzsi Kadar at 704-688-7033 or via email at [email protected] to receive meeting materials. Alternatively, community members who prefer or need to attend remotely have the option to join the public hearing via Zoom with the link provided on the County’s news post.

Mecklenburg County also wants to ensure the meeting is accessible to everyone. If any accommodations are needed due to disability, or if translation services are needed for non-English-speaking participants, requests should be made ahead of time. The County asks to be given a 72-hour notice to make the necessary arrangements and details can be found in the official statement. "Anyone needing special modifications when attending this meeting, has non-English-speaking needs and/or if this information is needed in an alternative format because of a disability, please contact Timmothy Tibbs at 980-314-2915 or [email protected]," states the county news release.
