Mecklenburg County is reaching out to its residents, seeking their input on the upcoming Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget. The county has launched a survey, now available on the Mecklenburg County website, which aims to collect public opinion regarding service and program priorities funded by tax dollars. The survey promises to be a straightforward way for citizens to express their concerns, taking just a few minutes to point county leaders in the right direction based on community preferences.
As county officials, including the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, convene from Jan. 29-31 for their annual budget retreat, the survey opens a critical window for residents to have their say. Local leaders are intent on drafting a budget that aligns with the aspirations, and the needs of those they serve, and this survey functions as a direct channel for residents to voice their opinions on how their tax dollars should be utilized.
Beyond the survey, opportunities for public engagement will not be in short supply. County Manager Dena R. Diorio is on the roster to present a budget recommendation come May 15. Moreover, there's a second public hearing penciled in for May 22, all culminating in the adoption of the budget by the Board on June 3, as the Mecklenburg County news release indicates.
Mecklenburg leaders want to create a budget that involves the community. They are focusing on transparency and input, recognizing that a budget is not just about numbers, but reflects the values and priorities of the people. Their goal is to make sure the 2025-2026 budget truly represents the community’s needs.
