A string of violent crimes in Memphis has culminated in multiple arrests, according to recent social media posts by the local police department. The Memphis Police Department est.1827 reported on a robbery that took place on the evening of January 4, 2025, in the 3900 block of Mamie Avenue, where a man expecting a date was instead met by two males and two females armed with AK-style guns. The group allegedly forced their way into the residence, threatening the man and four others before fleeing with stolen items, including a cellphone.
In a related incident on the same night, a carjacking resulted in a victim being shot after stopping to help two females, who signaled them while driving a gray Nissan Altima in the 3400 block of Wingate. The victims, driving a GMC Terrain, were confronted and robbed by two armed males who emerged from the Nissan, and shots were fired as they escaped. This violent encounter, occurring barely an hour after the robbery of Mamie, marks a worrying pattern of criminal collaboration and premeditated violence.
The police subsequently identified a 16-year-old female involved in the Mamie Avenue incident with Alexander Moreno, 20, pinpointed as one of the male suspects. They have both been charged with an array of serious offenses, including Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Robbery, Carjacking, and Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.
Further investigations linked the 16-year-old, who had portrayed herself as innocent bait in the guise of online dating, to another violent incident on January 3. A shots-fired call led officers to discover vehicles and a residence riddled with bullet holes in the 3500 block of Kendrick Avenue. Consequently, the teenager also faces charges of Reckless Endangerment, hinting at a broader spree of criminal activity.
