According to a post on their official Facebook page, Officer Charles H. Cathey died, leaving behind a legacy of commitment to public service and community safety after an honorable stint spanning over three decades with the department.
Cathey's journey with the Memphis Police Department began on July 6, 1987, as a Police Service Technician, and he progressed through the ranks following his graduation from the Training Academy; his assignments over the years included periods in the North Precinct Charlie shift, starting on April 2, 1988, and later the North Precinct Bravo shift then he dug into the intricacies of fraud and document-related crimes, and most recently he's been a member of the Crime Scene Investigation Bravo shift, the department highlighted his dedication and the void his absence will create.
In the post mourning his loss, the Memphis Police paid tribute to Cathey, noting that "his contributions were invaluable, and he played an integral role within our department." Remembered as both a beloved and respected figure, the impact of Officer Cathey's work is said to have extended far beyond the confines of his immediate professional surrounding, deeply affecting the community he served and his colleagues alike.
The MPD's message resonated with palpable grief, extending a call for empathy and support: "Please keep Officer Cathey’s family, friends, and fellow officers in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," the farewell acknowledges Officer Cathey's deep commitment which the department says leaves a void in our hearts. The notice pays respects to a man whose life work was ensuring the safety of others, forging bonds within the community that will cherish his memory.
