In a series of closely linked crimes spanning over a month, Memphis Police have cracked down on a string of violent carjackings and robberies involving underage suspects. According to a Facebook post by the Memphis Police Department, the incidents began with a carjacking outside Ming’s Chinese Cuisine on Semmes Street on December 18, 2024. The series of crimes culminated in multiple charges against three teenagers following a failed getaway that ended on McCrory Avenue.

Initial reports detailed a robbery and carjacking at Ming's where suspects took off with a victim’s 2018 Toyota 4Runner. A similar scenario unfolded at other locations including the Super Coin Laundry and the Q Mart. Victims were often confronted by armed suspects demanding cash before fleeing in stolen vehicles, including a 2006 Toyota Avalon taken during an incident at Valero Gas Station on Lamar Avenue. Another carjacking took place at the Guatemala Supermarket, leading to a high-speed police chase resulting in the apprehension of the three male suspects after their stolen vehicle crashed.

Each of the teenage suspects faces multiple charges. The youngest, a 15-year-old male, has been charged with Aggravated Robbery (4X), Carjacking (4X), Attempted First Degree Murder, and several other felonies, as detailed by the police department's social media announcement. The second teenager, a 16-year-old male, also faces a slew of charges including Evading Arrest in a Vehicle and Reckless Driving. The third, another 15-year-old, is charged with Carjacking and Attempted Aggravated Robbery, among other offenses.
