Memphis is grappling with a crime wave targeting Walgreens pharmacies across the city, with police actively searching for three suspects linked to at least five armed robberies. Over a few weeks, armed individuals have targeted Walgreens stores, escalating concerns among employees and shoppers in the affected neighborhoods. The most recent incident, a robbery at the 4154 Elvis Presley Boulevard location, occurred in the early hours yesterday when the perpetrator made off with approximately $750, as reported by FOX13 Memphis.
The string of robberies began on December 11 at the 1863 Union Avenue Walgreens, each marked by the brandishing of firearms and the theft of hundreds of dollars from the registers. In each instance, suspects displayed an unsettling level of boldness, using an AR-style rifle in one robbery and handguns, one equipped with a laser, in others. Surveillance footage from the affected stores has led authorities to believe that this group of robberies may be the work of three men, as per Action News 5.
According to WREG News, the suspects have covered different areas within the city, striking at various times yet maintaining a pattern of committing the crimes between 1:30 and 4:30 a.m. Some robberies involved a single armed suspect, while others showed a crude division of labor—one man executing the theft inside the store. At the same time, another stood outside, presumably to serve as a lookout.
The Memphis Police Department has released descriptions of suspects and the vehicles allegedly used to flee the crime scenes, including an older model white Nissan sedan and a black sedan. Further compounding the difficulty of apprehending these criminals, no arrests have been made, and the Memphis community is urged to come forward with any information that could resolve this issue. This plea was echoed in a call for assistance by the Memphis police, as documented by Action News 5, inviting any potential tips to be reported to Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
