Memphis Police Department's hours-long standoff with a domestic violence suspect culminated not with an arrest but with an empty house. The situation began around 9 a.m. yesterday when the MPD responded to a domestic assault in southeast Memphis, treating one minorly injured person at the scene of the crime. The suspect then retreated into a home on Leven Road, instigating the standoff, FOX13 Memphis reported.
As the day unfolded, the TACT unit, specializing in dealing with barricade scenarios, forcibly entered the home after seven hours, but to the surprise of many, they found no trace of the suspect, the Commercial Appeal described. Despite the presence of numerous officers, tactical personnel, and a robust police perimeter around the location, the suspect managed to evade their grasp, leaving authorities searching for clues leading to their whereabouts.
In what felt like a choreographed dance of strategy and strength, authorities employed multiple resources including tactical vests, helmets, and a large black vehicle with heavily armored officers, all in an attempt to end the standoff peacefully, as detailed by Action News 5. However, this heightened display of law enforcement readiness ended not with a resolution but a deepened mystery.
The Memphis Police Department has continued its call for community assistance, asking that anyone with information on the suspect's location contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
