A suspect led DeSoto County deputies on a harrowing car chase last Thursday that ended with a crash and the suspect's arrest. Michael Siggers, the man driving the reported stolen vehicle, sparked a high-speed pursuit when he failed to comply with a deputy's attempt to stop him, said DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas E. Tuggle III.
According to WREG, the chase involved Siggers ramming into several patrol vehicles before a confrontation ensued between him and the officers. Sheriff Tuggle maintained that the officers used “necessary force” to take Siggers into custody and that he "did not suffer any serious injuries," despite Siggers appearing with a black eye in his mugshot. Taken to the hospital for evaluation, no deputies were reported injured during the incident.
A subsequent search of the vehicle unearthed narcotics, a key fob programmer, and a multitude of key fobs, which, as per the sheriff's comment to Action News 5, are commonly associated with car theft. Known to law enforcement, Siggers from Memphis has an extensive criminal record that includes charges for aggravated assault, multiple larceny offenses, drug-related crimes, weapons possession, resisting arrest, and numerous traffic violations.
The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office clarified, in an interview obtained by FOX13 Memphis, that the pursuit took place on public roads and not on school property, ensuring the public that the threat to citizens and deputies was contained. After the chase concluded with the crash, Siggers faced charges of felony fleeing a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault on a police officer with a weapon. He was released from jail on a $50,000 bond this past Tuesday.
