The Memphis Tigers have clawed their way into the spotlight, securing a place in the final AP Poll as the 24th ranked team, the first time they've achieved such a feat since 2019, following an impressive 11-2 season capped by a victory at the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl over West Virginia, as reported by Action News 5.
During the course of the 2024 season, Ohio State ascended to the pinnacle of college football, clinching the number one spot in the AP Top 25 after their win against Notre Dame in the Championship Game and this victory marked a decade since their last number one finish in the poll, with the Buckeyes also securing their position by winning the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff according to Sports Illustrated.
The final poll placed Notre Dame second, ascending above SEC champion Georgia, while Oregon, previously undefeated and number one for the latter half of the season, dropped to third after a loss to Ohio State, and Boise State earned a spot within the top 10 as the highest-ranked Group of Five team after their Mountain West championship win over UNLV.
Meanwhile, Memphis Tigers' head coach Ryan Silverfield experienced a unique celebration as he received an icy coffee bath following their bowl victory, which the coach described, "It was actually refreshing. It smells delicious," in a sentiment echoed by The Commercial Appeal.
