As winter weather begins to ease in the Mid-South, schools across the region are preparing to reopen after a weekend of closures. Students and teachers in several districts are expected to return to their routines as the new week starts. According to Action News 5, Memphis-Shelby County Schools are among the institutions resuming classes. Bartlett City Schools, Tipton County Schools, Collierville Schools, Germantown Municipal Schools, and DeSoto County Schools will also welcome back students after the winter disruption.
However, not all districts are able to quickly resume classes following the winter weather. McNairy County Schools, Hardin County Schools, Hardeman County Schools, and Fayette County Schools will remain closed for now. Haywood County Schools will also delay the start of the school day, giving students and staff an additional two hours before beginning.
FOX13 Memphis also released a comprehensive list of school districts' operational statuses. In addition to the aforementioned openings, Promise Academy School District, Crockett County School District, Dyer County School District, Lakeland School System District, Marion School District, and Tate County School District (with a two-hour delay) are set to open. Meanwhile, West Memphis and Marshall County school districts plan to cautiously impose a two-hour delay for their return.
"🎉 Welcome Back, MSCS Students and Staff! We’re excited to see you in the classrooms on Monday, January 13th!" announced Memphis-Shelby County Schools, as noted in an abc24 report.
