The start of the new year brings with it updates from various divisions of the Minnesota Department of Human Services, specifically from the Aging and Adult Services Division (AASD) and the Disability Services Division (DSD). On the docket this time around are changes to eligibility worksheets for two programs and an invitation to a series of training events catering to professionals working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
According to a recent bulletin from the AASD and DSD, there have been enhancements made to the eligibility worksheets for the Alternative Care (AC) and Essential Community Supports (ECS) programs. These alterations, effective as of January 1, stem from the annual revisions to the federal income and, eligibility standards. Case managers and program assessors are the audience who need to be most abreast of these changes.
Furthermore, there is an opportunity for those involved in the provision of positive behavior supports to enhance their skills through a series of virtual training sessions. Organized by DHS in collaboration with the University of Minnesota’s Institute on Community Integration (ICI), the six-part series is creatively titled "Applying Positive Behavior Support Intensives in Minnesota Human Service Settings." The series is itemized to span a wide array of dates beginning from January 8 and rounding off on June 11, 2025. Professionals looking to build upon their skill set in this area are encouraged to register for the aforementioned sessions.
It's essential to note that the divisions occasionally distribute messages that are slightly more pressing. A prime example of this would be the December 30, 2024, advisory against adding or making changes to MMIS service agreements, a joint message that merits particular attention for those it affects. This, and other announcements, can be accessed through the bulletins published by the AASD and DSD. Participation and compliance with these updates are critical for ensuring that services provided align with the latest standards and practices.
