The Metropolitan Police Department is on the lookout for a suspect involved in a bold daytime armed carjacking in the city's Northwest corridor. According to a release on the Metropolitan Police Department's official website, the incident took place on the 1700 block of 4th Street, Northwest, last Sunday shortly after 1:00 p.m. An armed individual confronted the victim as she entered her vehicle and, brandishing a handgun, forcefully demanded her car keys. The victim ceded to the assailant's demands, resulting in the suspect fleeing the scene in the stolen car.
To apprehend the individual responsible, the MPD has issued a public appeal for assistance. The department is urging anyone with information on the suspect or the incident to make contact—but not to engage—by calling (202) 727-9099, or sending a tip via text to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
Third District officers who initially responded to the armed robbery call found that the crime had unfolded rapidly, underscoring the unpredictability and the opportunistic nature of such violent encounters. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was fortunately unharmed physically.
