
An officer-involved shooting that took place in Charlotte's Freedom Division is currently under investigation, with new details emerging. Officer Joseph Calabro of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is identified as the officer who discharged his firearm during the incident. CMPD has confirmed that Officer Calabro, who joined the force on June 27, 2016, felt an imminent deadly threat which led to the shooting. As per protocol, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has taken the lead in this active case.
Additional information regarding the circumstances that led to the incident is expected to be shared by either the SBI, or by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office as the investigation progresses.
