North Carolina residents can now leave their cars at home for trips to Virginia thanks to a new partnership between state transportation agencies. The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has introduced the Triad-Danville Connector, a new intercity bus route designed to improve connectivity between the two states. This service will tee-up with the Virginia Breeze bus routes, creating a network aimed to serve daily travelers and those looking to explore the region more broadly.
According to an announcement from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the connector starts off in Winston-Salem, N.C., and makes a pit stop in Greensboro and Reidsville before heading to its final destination at the Danville Transit Center in Virginia. Brennon Fuqua, director of NCDOT’s Integrated Mobility Division, highlighted the initiative, stating, "Through planning studies and surveys, we identified a great need for additional connectivity between Greensboro (N.C.) and Danville (V.A.)." Apparently, NCDOT and their counterparts in Virginia are eager to ease the journey for folks traveling between these bustling communities.
The new route, serving guests twice daily every day of the week, connects conveniently with the Virginia Breeze Piedmont Express and Capital Connector intercity bus routes, and North Carolina's own Mountaineer East-West Route. These routes offer gateways to larger urban centers like Washington D.C., Richmond, and Charlottesville. Such interconnected pathways pave a simpler travel experience for North Carolinians and Virginians, especially for those reliant on public transport for work, family, or leisure.
Tiffany Robinson, director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, emphasized the collaborative nature of this new expansion. She shared, "This partnership between North Carolina and Virginia underscores the importance of collaboration in expanding transportation networks that benefit our communities," according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The anticipated seamlessness of the Triad-Danville Connector aims to prove the collaborative efforts fruitful, making the mobility puzzle of the mid-Atlantic a bit more complete for everyday travelers.
Furthermore, the unveiling of the new service underscores the ongoing endeavors of NCDOT's Integrated Mobility Division to not just add new routes, but also ensure they work harmoniously with existing travel options. These options encompass NC By Train, the state's intercity passenger rail service, and Amtrak, with its reach across the nation.
