On the heels of a fresh start for the Orleans Parish School Board, District Attorney Jason Williams recently stepped in to offer his welcome to the newly minted members. The Orleans Parish School Board now carries the names Leila Jacobs Eames, Gabriela Biro, Olin G. Parker, Katrina Chantelle Griffin, Katherine "Katie" Baudouin, Carlos Luis Zervigon, and Nolan Marshall, Jr. as representatives of its seven districts, as reported by the New Orleans District Attorney's Office.
According to a post on the New Orleans District Attorney's Office Facebook page, Williams emphasized the intertwined roles of education and the justice system. He spoke on how they collectively work to mold the minds and the lives of our coming generations. From fostering critical thinking and empathy to upholding justice and accountability, DA Williams advocates for to synergistically work these two systems to strengthen civic participation and personal development.
DA Williams is quoted as saying, "There is no more important job than teaching our children." His office stressed that when educators and the legal system unite, they have the potential to not only address but also preemptively resolve challenges that can deter young folks from their paths to success. Embracing supportive solutions could also serve as a catalyst for students to become active contributors to a more fair and balanced society, as stated by the New Orleans District Attorney's Office.
The shared vision of these institutions is to put into place the groundwork for the youth to confidently make decisions that benefit their future and the community at large. With the new school board at the helm, the focus rests heavy on the collaborative possibilities that lie ahead to enrich the journey of education for New Orleans’ younger residents.
