On Friday last week, New Orleans resident Travis Jordan, 39, was sentenced to 21 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm, according to U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans' office. Jordan, a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing a firearm under federal law. After serving his sentence, he will be placed on three years of supervised release and must pay a $100 special assessment fee.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, the incident leading to Jordan's arrest took place on February 18, 2024, when he was denied entry to the Saint Bar due to intoxication. Jordan became upset and confronted an employee. During the altercation, a firearm fell from his waistband. Jordan attempted to retrieve the weapon, but bar employees quickly secured the gun and restrained him until police arrived.

This case was prosecuted under the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, a Department of Justice initiative focused on reducing violent crime. PSN brings together local, state, and federal partners to target sources of violence in communities and supports prevention and reentry strategies to achieve lasting crime reduction.

U.S. Attorney Evans commended the efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, as well as the New Orleans Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Troy Bell from the Violent Crime Unit prosecuted the case .
