New Orleans is recovering from a tragic attack on Bourbon Street during New Year's celebrations. Elle Eisele, a 19-year-old University of Georgia student who was critically injured, shared a reunion with her best friend, Steele Idelson, on social media. Both were victims of the attack, in which a truck driven by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a former U.S. Army soldier, plowed through a crowd and opened fire, resulting in 14 deaths and multiple injuries.
Eisele posted a photo of herself and her best friend, Idelson, in the hospital with their hands clasped, writing, "So happy my best friend is alive and by my side ❤️." The families praised the hospital’s "superb" care, and Eisele, who wants to pursue medicine, found comfort in spending time with Idelson. Their reunion, which lasted about two hours, according to Atlanta News First and FOX5 Atlanta.
Elle Eisele and Steele Idelson are recovering at the University Medical Center in New Orleans, though their exact recovery timeline is unknown. Eisele expressed her gratitude, saying, "With more gratitude than you can fathom I wanted to let my friends and family know that I am fighting and I am healing. Most importantly I am alive and I am so thankful that God spared Steele and myself." GoFundMe pages have been created to help support their families during their recovery, as reported by FOX5 Atlanta.
