In an effort to upgrade its water treatment capabilities, Newton County is embarking on a significant infrastructure project. The county announced plans to expand the Cornish Creek Water Treatment Plant and decommission the ageing Williams Street Water Treatment Plant. Funding for this initiative comes from a loan facilitated through the Georgia Environmental Authority and the Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division, as per the county's official website.
Following a thorough environmental review, officials have determined that the project will not have significant impacts on the local environment. Announced yesterday, this expansion and demolition plan, having passed its necessary evaluations, poses a promising future for water treatment in the area.
The public can access the detailed findings from the review, as the notice of no significant impact on the environment has been posted. The document can be viewed online, or in person at the Newton County Historic Courthouse, located at 1124 Clark Street. Residents are encouraged to review the posted notice to gain insight into the environmental considerations and scope of the upcoming construction work.
