On a late December afternoon in 2024, a domestic violence incident escalated to a tragic conclusion in North Hollywood, shaking a quiet residential street. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, they responded to a call on the 12900 block of Willard Street, where they discovered a female victim with severe head trauma as a result of an "Assault With A Deadly Weapon, Domestic Violence." She was promptly transported to a hospital for emergency care.
The chain of events unfolded when Edgar Gutierrez, age 34, and the victim, whose relationship spanned over two years, became embroiled in an altercation outdoors. Gutierrez decided to quickly leave the scene in a car, with the victim perilously clinging on to the vehicle. In an attempt to dislodge her, Gutierrez reportedly accelerated, navigating through the neighborhood streets with what would later be described as "violent maneuvers," as stated by the LAPD. Eventually, the victim was thrown from the vehicle, and Gutierrez fled, leaving behind the victim in grave condition.
Despite the medical team's efforts, the victim's struggle ended in heartbreak. She passed on December 30, 2024, just two days after the harrowing incident. As the community grappled with this senseless act, the Valley Bureau Homicide detectives pursued leads to bring the perpetrator to justice. Edgar Gutierrez became the primary suspect in this now murder case. A warrant was issued for his arrest and his vehicle, as detailed by the LAPD.
In a stroke of diligence, Burbank Police Officers were able to locate Gutierrez on December 29, 2024. He was apprehended "without incident" and booked on charges initially labeled as attempted murder, only to be revised promptly to murder following the victim's death. Bail was set at a striking $1 million. In a swift response to the unfolding tragedy, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed formal murder charges against Gutierrez.
