According to a Facebook post by NYPD Crimestoppers, on December 22, 2024, a 73-year-old woman fell victim to a cellphone theft while aboard a northbound 6 train near the East 143 Street - St. Mary's subway station.
The elderly victim was reportedly approached by an unidentified individual who proceeded to snatch her cellphone right from her hands. This incident highlights an ongoing issue of petty theft in the subway system that has left residents feeling vulnerable. The NYPD 40th Precinct is actively investigating the case and has not provided any description of the suspect at this time. They are offering a reward of up to $3,500 for information leading to an arrest.
