Earlier this month, a man tragically drowned off the coast of Kona. Kona patrol officers have confirmed the identity of the individual as 35-year-old Garret Khralovch Stanislav from Mayfield, Ohio, who was found in Kailua-Kona, as reported by Nixle.
The incident unfolded last Sunday, when officers responded to a distress call near O-Tech Beach around 5:30 p.m. They found that Stanislav, along with two other men, had been near the beach's restrooms when he fell into the water. The rough waves that day proved too much, and despite the attempts of the two men with him, Stanislav was unable to swim back to safety.
Hawai‘i Fire Department rescuers were deployed to the scene, where they searched for and eventually recovered Stanislav. Despite their efforts, he showed no signs of life. The victim was then transported by boat to Honokōhau Harbor and later taken to Kona Community Hospital, where his death was pronounced.
The police have initiated a coroner’s inquest to investigate the incident and are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact Kona Patrol Officer Sarha Reich at the department's non-emergency number, (808) 935-3311, or by email at [email protected], as stated in the official report from Nixle.
