In a tension-filled incident in Pine Hills, Orange County deputies engaged an armed 16-year-old suspect in a shooting confrontation after responding to a call concerning individuals linked to earlier drive-by shootings. According to WESH, deputies arrived at a residence around 1 p.m. yesterday searching for the teenage suspect identified in connection with two separate drive-by incidents that occurred at 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. on San Jose Boulevard.

Upon deputies' arrival, the young suspect was reportedly armed and did not comply with orders to disarm, leading to deputies discharging their weapons. The ordeal left a neighborhood shaken, with one resident stating, per WESH, "I'm shocked that it happened just right here at my front door." During the incident, a 24-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the foot.

Overhead footage captured by Chopper 2 showed several deputy vehicles on the scene and evidence markers scattered near the home where the confrontation took place. The sheriff's department confirmed the arrest of the 16-year-old suspect, and it is anticipated that numerous others will also face charges relating to the case. At least one firearm was retrieved from the scene, and no deputies were reported injured during the encounter.

Providing insight into the officers' response, Sheriff John Mina remarked, "You got to follow the commands of law enforcement," in a statement obtained by WESH. Asserting belief in the justified use of force, he stated, "You shouldn't be doing drive-by shootings certainly, and you shouldn't be holding a gun anywhere near law enforcement. What I tell people, if you follow the commands of law enforcement and surrender peacefully, you won't get shot."

An update released at 4:25 p.m. by the WFTV disclosed additional details from Sheriff Mina, confirming that the deputies were indeed firing at a suspect linked to the day's earlier drive-by incidents, tracked down to the 5200 block of Montague Place. Following the incident, as standard procedure dictates, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates.
