A tragic incident occurred this morning in Ottawa County near Grand Haven when a 30-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck. According to FOX 17, the collision was reported to authorities at around 7:15 a.m. with deputies responding to the scene at 144th Avenue and Green Street. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ottawa County dispatch confirmed the deadly crash after a call came in about a man being struck by a vehicle. Subsequent investigations led to the closure of the area to traffic, as noted by WZZM13. Police have yet to provide additional details regarding the circumstances that led up to the fatal incident.
The victim, a local man from the area, was reportedly walking on Green Street when the accident occurred. MLive cited the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, stating that the driver, a 60-year-old Grand Haven man, claimed he was unable to see the pedestrian due to heavy snowfall at the time of the crash.
Following the accident, Green Street was closed between 144th Avenue and Osner Drive for several hours while authorities conducted their inquiries. Police have since reopened the road, and the investigation into the crash continues. The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
