Oxnard Police Seize Stolen Firearm After Traffic Stop, 19-Year-Old Rene Duran ChargedSource: Oxnard Police Department

On the night of January 23, a disturbance in Oxnard led to the recovery of a stolen firearm, police say. According to a news release from the Oxnard Police Department, officers from the Special Enforcement Unit, targeting gang activities, responded to a report of individuals yelling gang slogans in the area of Cuesta Del Mar Dr. Upon arrival, officers observed the reported individuals entering a vehicle and soon conducted a traffic stop based on a separate vehicle code infraction.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Rene Duran of Oxnard, along with four other passengers, was approached by the officers after they noticed an open alcoholic beverage container in the vehicle. A search ensued, leading officers to quickly locate a loaded 9-millimeter H&K handgun, reported stolen out of Los Angeles County. A second firearm, a loaded and unregistered Glock .357, was also found. "Duran was ultimately charged with possessing both firearms," the police said, as stated by the Oxnard Police Department.

The police department is actively seeking information from the public regarding similar cases or any criminal activity. They encourage citizens to reach out through various channels including direct contact, their website, and the Ventura County Crime Stoppers. "Anyone with information regarding this case or other criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Oxnard Police Department," Sergeant Bakari Myers stated, per the Oxnard Police Department, providing avenues for citizens to confidentially report their concerns and contribute to the safety of their community.
